55th International Art Exhibition - Venice Art Biennale 2013
01.06-24.11

This is the occasion to enhance the knowledge of the authentic Venice ... and after visiting the Arsenale, Giardini, pavillions and collateral exhibitions all around the city, entering hided palaces and sweeping narrow paths, it is time to go through the taste of the real Venetian and Italian cuisine.

Follow these free and personal selection of the best you can find in Venice (this is a free guide not guided by advertisements), you wont be disappointed with the restaurant service in Venice, despite the "high turistic season".

So...

You definitely cannot say that you have been to Venice if you have not savored a “sardèa in saòr”, a creamed cod fish crouton or a stick of “spiensa” standing at the bar of a tavern / bàcaro / cicchetteria, or without having tasted a big plate of “Bigoli in salsa”, tagliolini (noodles) with squid in black sauce or venetian style liver, sitting comfortably at a table in a restaurant in a more secluded campiello or along a foundation on the water.

And again: caparossoli in cassopipa (clams with parsley), bisato sull’ara (eel roasted with bay leaves…a Murano specialty), castraure artichokes (the first artichokes to grown in April on Sant’Erasmo’s island), saltate di peoci (sautéed mussels) and homegrown clams ... every specialty and dish validate an ancient tradition which is the result of the relations of Venice with the mainland and sometimes with distant countries.

But where do you must stop for a short break and a “ombra” of wine, a lavish lunch, a pizza by the slice or an ice cream, without being ripped off as, alas, it is often the case in Venice?

We have made then a careful selection of criteria in terms of goodness, authenticity and honesty ...! A clear guidance divided by categories (bacari and osterie, restaurants and trattorie, pizzeria, ice cream shos...) for each of the 6 districts and islands of the lagoon, complete with all contact details, maps and photos.

And for completeness, you can also find some suggestions for your food and wine shopping in order to carry with you some of the flavors of live venice.
